37 weeks. Um. What?

Dec 23, 2013

the outfit:
burgundy crochet-trim maternity top, c/o PinkBlush | the strand necklace, c/o applepear | faux fur vest, Target | Burberry satchel knock-off, thrift find | maternity boyfriend jean, A Pea In the Pod (via e-bay) | Moorland ankle bootie, c/o Hush Puppies, similar

The husband & I got to have a date day this past weekend (maybe our last before the baby boy arrives?!). So. What did we do? Starbucks, a Target run and then literally just vegged on the couch. It was glorious. It's funny what you consider to be a hot date once you have a kid(s). O m geeee...we get time to ourselves. What do you want to do?? Ummm. Let's sit on the couch without interruption! ha-ha. Pretty much.

It's weird to think that I won't be dressing this bump for much longer. We've hit that 37 week mark. What? Crazy. I really can't believe it. I actually found getting dressed this time around a bit more challenging...not sure why. Maybe because my two year old was keeping me busy and very tired at. all. times? That may be it. I know that I'll miss it though...sometimes. Keyword here. ;)

I'll be layered for Christmas.

the outfit: fur-collared white coat, Old Navy | plaid scarf, Old Navy | textured open front cardigan, Old Navy | skinny glitter belt, Target | MAMA maternity jeans, H&M | Chamber 14" boot, c/o Hush Puppies

After yesterday's post I actually got all inspired to lock-down a Christmas day outfit. I think I've finally got it. We're headed to the in-law's house in the country, so this outfit will work great- nothing too fancy shmancy, has a festive quality to it...and it's comfortable (the most important thing). Now, the only trick is getting me out of my even more comfy flannel pajamas that day... ;). It may or may not happen.

Give me comfy or give me death, says the pregnant lady.

THE LOOK:
Green Onyx Square Cut Ring || c/o Belleza Mia on Etsy
Green Notch Lapel Coat || c/o SheInside
3/4 Sleeve Aubergine Maternity Wrap Dress || c/o Ingrid & Isabel
Chamber 14" Boot (as seen in Redbook!) || c/o Hush Puppies
Knee high socks || Target
Horseshoe bracelet | c/o Project DIY box

I love a nice combo like this...especially when the entire outfit is comfy and maternity-friendly. I just can't handle anything that is even slightly constricting or uncomfortable right now. Nope. Can't do it. The belly is growing and growing (and growing)...& I can feel it. Like whoah. This easy, no fuss Fall maternity outfit makes me feel perfectly wonderful though. Oh...and the beautiful lovely of a ring on my finger? It some how makes my man hands look feminine (which is just crazy), so it's a definite new favorite accessory.

Okay, I am off to conquer 5 bajillion things. My best friend/roomie from college is getting married later this week! Eeek! Long weekend alone with my husband! Eeeeeeeek! So many explanation points!!!

Happy Monday, friends.

Pumpkin time.

THE LOOK:
chunky cable knit sweater | ASOS, similar
skinny ankle jeans | Joe's Jeans (outlet), similar
buckled Moorland ankle bootie | c/o Hush Puppies

Oooh, yes. The pumpkin patch. It happened this past weekend. We went to Hodges Farm, the same farm as last year...which, btw, almost brought me to happy/sad tears. How does a year just pass like that?! Mads has grown so much (and so has my belly, apparently ;). I just can't get over how time flies when you become a parent. Bittersweet is really the only word for it.

My mom and youngest sis were in town for the weekend, so we got to bring them along. My family lives about 7.5 hours away, so any time I can get with any one in my family is a blessing. They actually just left this morning, so I'm drowning my sorrows in coffee and apple pie for breakfast (I'm going to feel so sick in about an hour. haha).

...but let's talk about my Fall maternity outfit for a sec. I love the long cable knit sweater...more so than when I wasn't pregnant! It's comfy and covers my unbuttoned jeans situation. Yes, I still occasionally wear non-maternity jeans. Call my cray. I just can't let my Joes sit in the closet for an entire Fall and Winter. No no no. That just won't do. *btw, a Blanqi is a good pregnancy style basic to have- helps to keep those non-maternity jeans up.

Happy Monday, lovies.

snow on my berfday.

Feb 18, 2013

My birthday weekend was awesome.
Not only did I turn 25 (for the second time), a random snow storm decided to happen!
I had been hoping for snow all winter, but we do live in NC....sooo...all seemed lost.
Until...we were out for my b-day din din...& BAM...it started snowing.

 & 15 min. later...

what I wore: Old Navy white furry coat // Target striped cotton top // F21 necklace // J Brand Jeggings // Hush Puppies
Moorland Ankle Boot

Best birthday. Ever.

"I am NEVER driving a minivan" -me

Dec 10, 2012

"Oh... ... darn" -me

Yeh, it happened.
I am now a minivan mama.
I won't lie, I teared up a bit as we drove out of the dealership, leaving my faithful VW Jetta behind. :(
I felt like part of me had died- the young, fun and free part. Haha!
I guess this is what getting older is all about though.
Change...and minivans.

This cream, white + gold ensemble was my way of revolting against "soccer mom" status.
I will be a stylin' swag wagon driver!

A couple more kids may change my tune.

............

BTW:
There is going to be a stylin' LiM giveaway starting here tomorrow!

fur collared coat: Old Navy-$39.99-// turtle-neck: Old Navy-$9.99- // dark wash jegging: J Brand from Summerbird Consignment-$15- // boot socks: Marshalls-$7.99- // *Moorland Ankle Boot: Hush Puppies*

I literally did not take these boots off the three days we spent in PA for Thanksgiving.
I could have b/c I packed 4 pairs of different shoes for our trip, but I ended up not wanting to wear anything else.

When I first was introduced to Hush Puppies I really thought "sure they're comfy, but aren't they too comfy looking?"... if you know what I mean (drab). I started to peruse and realized that they do in fact have on-trend styles. I got excited.
I got ever more excited when I tried on the boots for the first time.

They say beauty is pain, but that just doesn't apply when it comes to Hush Puppies.
You can def-o have the beauty without the pain.
My feet felt like they went on a holiday.
All. day.

Now, I do realize the $ is out of my usual LiM budget-friendly limit.
Sorry lovies, but when it comes to denim and dependable/versatile boots, I like to go for better quality because they are worn more often than anything else during the chilly seasons.
I have tried $20 boots and after about a week they smell, already look dirty and worn and even lose their shape.

Not these HP boots, my friends.
After a few days in the mountains of PA they still look, feel and smell new.
I am smitten.

meet Hush Puppies shoes. Yes, I said Hush Puppies.

May 29, 2012

When I was asked to share the Hush Puppies shoe line with you, my instant thought was...
Hush Puppies? Aren't those shoes for old people?
(no offense, old folk. you're cool)
I was hesitant to even check them out.
Let me tell you, lovies. I have been pleasantly surprised.

The older generation has been known to slip on a pair of Hush Puppies, but now a much younger crowd will be happy to as well.
Why?
Well, take a look at their new line, HP1985 which has comfy retro styles.
They can please both the young and old!

Below is more in depth information on the brand, but I want to let the pictures do most of the talking first.

You'll find even more lovelies at
Hush Puppies.

Brand Power: What’s in a Name?

The power of a name is often something genuinely unique. It can create unbreakable connections in our minds so that every time we hear it, we automatically think of certain things. For example, if someone says Marilyn Monroe to you, you instantly think of her standing on top of that air vent with her skirt fluttering up above her waist. Alternatively, you might think of her birthday tribute to JFK. Either way, there are certain images which are indelibly linked to Marilyn’s name.

Creating the Link

It doesn’t just work with people, it works with brands as well. Companies spend billions of pounds each year on advertising, trying to establish these links in the minds of potential customers. They employ countless PR and marketing specialists to try and create a lasting impression in the minds of consumers. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s all about psychology and understanding the human condition. It’s a skill that is very difficult to master. Which explains why those who are good at it earn so much money.

The Quality Effect

There is another way to create a link between the name of your product and the perception within the minds of consumers, and that’s to establish a reputation for quality. This is not the quick fix represented by advertising – this path requires a little more time and effort. To establish your brand as memorable and well-known takes years and sometimes decades of quality production. It’s not an easy road to follow and it is one that is fraught with danger. Even after years of demonstrating quality, one slip-up or dodgy product can destroy a proud reputation. Mud sticks, as they say. So, it’s a line that has to be walked carefully.

Those who get it right on a permanent basis can really cement their place as a field leader. Look at Hush Puppies boots, for example. They have been producing top of the range footwear since the 1950s. It’s a name that instantly conjures up images of solid, sturdy and comfortable footwear, with a range of classic and desirable styles. You can’t buy that kind of association, no matter how hard some might try.

The link that exists between a name and your mental image of it is a strong and powerful one and has to be built on some kind of truth. So, if you’re looking for a new pair of boots, you know what to do! It’s all in the name!
