a Simple yet Classic Fall centerpiece

Oct 9, 2012

I never go overboard when it comes to Fall decor (Christmas is my thing), but a festive wreath and dining room table centerpiece are always a must.

Simple and classic is what I aim for when decorating...and if I can DIY it...awesome.

I was at Goodwill the other day searching for some odds and ends to use for Fall decor
(and chasing after Moo who does not hold hands ever. No way. Mom's embarrassing already), when I came across   brass candlesticks + saucers.

I knew what to do.

 the supplies:
3 candle sticks (graduating heights)Goodwill
2 small plates, saucers or even small bowls- Goodwill
1 taper candle stick
industrial strength glue

how-to:
1. apply the glue around the tops of 2 of the candlesticks
2. place a plate on each, center, press down, & let to dry for 15-20 min
3. affix candle into remaining candlestick, place pumpkins onto plates and arrange it all as you prefer on your table

It is simple to add Fall festivity to your table & home.
You can find inspiration at your local Goodwill!

I am off to window shop at the mall with my dear friend and her babe.
...& restrain myself from purchasing the Cafe Capris I so badly want from J Crew.
You're awful, J.C. You do unfair things to my mind.

trunk to coffee table DIY.

Sep 19, 2012

I have had this old trunk for forever and a day.
My parents gave it to me for my birthday one year.
They had stuffed all of my presents into it and placed a big bow on it.
I actually remember opening it!

As a girl I filled it with pictures, soccer trophies, super secret diaries, dolls, etc. It was my secret place all for me.
I would periodically spend hours looking through it all and reminiscing.
As I got older I stopped filling it and recently it started gathering dust in storage...sad.
So...I came upon this post and knew exactly what I wanted to do.

trunk Coffee table.
We needed a budget-friendly option so this was perfect.
I also love any excuse to DIY something!

the supplies
trunk
4 wooden legs
4 nuts, bolts + washers
drill
spray paint (if you like)

how-to do it:
1) spray paint all of the legs any color you desire
2) drill 4 holes into the bottom of the chest (in each corner)
3) screw in the legs
4) on the inside place the washer + bolt over the screw and tighten
5) [optional] if your chest has a lot of wear + tear (like mine) you may want to sand it down, spray paint some spots and buff the metal a bit

I even put all of our albums in there so that guests can look through them...
&
I can continue to open my old trunk and re-live old memories. Just like old times.
I actually think this is the perfect Fall coffee table to have!

Living Room design inspiration board

Sep 5, 2012

...because the studs for that Burberry inspired DIY are now lost in the mail.
I am beginning to feel like I am not meant to complete it.
NO!
I must press on. I shall find studs and make it happen.
Next week, lovies. Maybe.
If the studs don't spontaneously com-bust on me.

Anyways, here is some design inspiration I have found for helping me to put together our living room (the current project).

[sources:  1. 2. 3. ]

So there you go.

Cottage all the way over here in the D household.

I am realizing how much time & effort you need for one little home project.
It is exhausting! Not to mention, little Moo doesn't find it to be entertaining and wails at me when I attempt to start working on something. I have resorted to dancing and singing for her while I work.
It works for approx. 5 minutes. ;)

Little by little. Room by room.
One day it'll get there.

Yes, I coach myself to remain calm.

ps. kitchen reveal coming very soon!

project: house to Home - a tour of my favorite little spots

Jul 30, 2012

These are all of my favorite little spots around the house.
All of our projects are taking some time
(small budget + little baby slash toddler that requires constant entertainment, yada yada).
I would love to have everything magically completed.
If we would only win that lottery we never play for.

That being said, I have been able to take real delight in the little spaces that I already love.
It helps to keep me from going in sane over all of the projects that are being left undone at the moment.

Yes, I do plan on revealing the kitchen very soon.
That is the one project that is very near completion!
I just need to finish up a couple little details &...
you will finally see our cottage kitchen.

See more on our project: house to home here.

Hope you have a lovely Monday, lovies.

project: house to home.

Jun 11, 2012

This is our new place. It needs some work.
I am putting my pride aside in order to show you the BEFORES before I have the AFTERS, because...
I would like you to come along for the ride.

If you have seen my Pinterest, you know how much I love a warm + cozy looking home.
Cottage.
That's what I am shooting for.

I know that this house isn't exactly right out of a Jane Austen novel, but I do believe that being creative can bring about some extraordinary results.

Being on a tight budget means that we will have to tackle one project at a time.
It will require a lot of patience
(which I am currently running low on. Wallpaper, I don't like you. Not one bit).

Regardless, I am so looking forward to making this place a home.
Once it is all completed I will sit back, sigh & smile. I will appreciate all of our hard work, because
we will have made it our own.

I love home design.
Love it.
I just hope that my love for it = I can design (haha).

I am hoping that this will serve as inspiration for you if you are planning on doing some work on your home as well!

Oh.
so.
much.
to.
do.
