sleep strike.

Oct 18, 2012

so well rested.

I mayyyyy be going crazy.
I don't know though.
I drink too much coffee these days that I can't tell if I am actually losing it or just experiencing caffeine highs n' lows.

My toddler doesn't sleep.
She definitely used to! Those were wonderful, glorious, almost forgotten days.
Her wake time is 6 am (an un-Godly 5 today) and lays her wee little head down for bed at 8 pm.
One nap/day is attempted forced, she fights it and then after finally falling to sleep she promptly wakes up 30 min later.
You can imagine my joy and excitement upon hearing her awaken!

She's tired...and I know it.
I'm tired...and I know it.
We're both raving loons by 3pm...and don't I know it.

Yeh, that is the gist of this entire post. I just want to whine.

Have you had any times like this, mamas or papas?
Please do share your stories....or tips.
Whatevzzz.

I am going now to drink my 5th cup of coffee...

;)

ps. lo siento to any mamas w/ 2+ chillins who don't even know what the word 'nap' means anymore...I'll be there one day...grumbling under my breath. lol.

pps. I am over at Ain't No Mom Jeans sharing some styling tips + being featured on the Queen City Style today! I am honored and so very excited. Cheers to both of them for having me on their bangin' blogs!

  1. Ohh, Moo's face is precious!! I'm sorry you've been so sleep deprived...fifth cup of coffee already...I love it! My friend who just has her third gets a few hrs a night broken up, but then we have some friends whose newborns sleep through the night! Crazy babes. ;)
I hope Moo decides to take a giant out of the blue nap for you!! Sending love! Xoxo

  2. I feel for you two girlies! We battle sleep issue every so often STILL and mine are 3 and 6! I try to find peace in knowing that "this too shall pass". One day they will be teenagers and I'll have to set a bomb off to get them up. Doesn't help the cranky babes but helps me a little :)

Best of luck it passes soon!

  4. I am sorry your going through this. I feel for you, I really do. My son was over 18 months before he slept through the night, and that night was really just a fluke. I could bore you with all the details, and what worked and didn't work, but for me all the suggestions just made me feel more guilty, like somehow it was my fault. He really didn't get better until preschool.

Hopefully, your daughter grows out of it soon. My only real suggestions are to remain as flexible as possible and hopefully you will come up with a routine that works for both of you. Now would be a good time to take up any offers for help you may have gotten, and rest when you can! Don't feel bad to nod off on the couch when you can. You may not be as productive as you like in this season, but like the other comment suggested, "this too shall pass" and sleep is critical, get enough of it whenever you can.

  5. When our daughter thought she didn't need naps anymore we put a lock on her door, yup we did. I told her "look, I have a new baby, you're taking a nap or playing by yourself or whatever for at least an hour and a half". I would usually play really soft lullabye music so she would have to lay still and be quiet to hear it. Usually this did the trick, she knew I was serious.

  6. Oh nooo!! That has got to be the worst! When baby doesn't sleep, you feel like you are going to lose your mind. I hope this is a phase for little moo!
Veronica sleep strikes whenever she is teething..tough when you work at home and only have nap times to work!
