a Kate Middleton in Stella McCartney & Cartier Olympics-inspired Necklace Look

Jul 27, 2012

(Yes, that is a 12 word title. SEO utilization. Don't hate ;)

With the 2012 Olympics being held in London, I have been talking Brit all week...& loving it.
So...I saw a picture of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge wearing this lovely steel blue Stella McCartney dress and Cartier necklace to an Olympic exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.
I knew I had to give it a go.

However, I do not have the budget for a $7800 Cartier stunner or anything Stella.
I improvised.

the outfit

Cartier/Olympics-inspired necklace ($4- made by me, DIY tutorial?)
Marshalls navy blue dress ($14.99)
Target black kitten heal (19.99- oldies)

I have a Q for you.
Do you want more Brit in your life next week?
Let me know b/c I can keep going with this.
Forever.

how-to style: like a Brit

Jul 25, 2012

Q: Do the Brits do it better when it comes to styling?

I personally do  prefer a more European look.
I think it has that bit of edge that some American styles just lack.
Don't get me wrong, I like to throw on a pair of jeans and t-shirt any given day!
I just loveeee adding in that little twist of Euro as well.

In order to get a better understanding of British style let's take a look, shall we, at some of Britain's top fashion icons.

So... how is it that they do what they do?:
(& how you can do it too!)

1. LAYER- the Brits actually benefit from all of that chilly/rainy weather when it comes to styling. They are able to utilize blazers, jackets, sweaters and other layering pieces on the regular. Layering can still be done in hot places (like here in sweltering NC) by dawning lighter layers- in the evening or indoors (where the a/c is your bff)

2. Mix + Match- like Alexa and Sienna, they are not as concerned with being matchy matchy as they are with being exploratory. Mixing it up a bit gives that look of edge.

3. the POSH factor- when looking at the likes of Kate & Beckham, one instantly thinks class. They look phenomenally put together. You can achieve this look by sticking with classic styles: pencil skirts, shift dresses, etc. Add in pops of color & statement accessories.

4. DARE- a lot of European styles take a chance and don't look back. They stand out among the rest. Be daring! Ideas: wear a leather jacket over a dress or wear boots with denim shorts.

A: the Brits definitely have there game on when it comes to fashion & styling.

Move on over, Olympics. London fashion has got it going on ;).

Oh, London Town.

Jul 23, 2012

With the Olympic games being held in London this year, I feel it is my duty & pleasure to share all things British this week.

Yeh, be excited.

Not to sound like a broken record, but remember...I am a half Brit.
My dad is a whole Brit (lives in England actually).
OoOOoo. Yes, he has the accent.

So...here's a little picture tour of London from one of my trips over the pond.

Something about that place pulls at my heart strings.
Yes...even with the clouds & rain (and even more rain).
It must be in my blood.
I always feel at home there.

I suppose that means I should watch the 2012 Olympics in London (starting this Friday!).
You as well?

Tune in for more British goodness this entire week.

Pip pip Cheerio!

No, Camille.
Stop.

ps. & thank you so very much, Spunkyrella for the One Amazing Chic Award! I blush.
