hippie. just a tad.

Jun 3, 2013

There's not much that I love more than being back with the fam in MD (where I am now)...aside from a good thrift store find ;). I found this striped poncho-y top at a local thrift shop. I'm not usually one to try the whole Free People look, but recently I have been so drawn to it. I guess it's just the the boho, care free and easy feel of it...it's drawing me in.

Laura of Ascot Friday does a superb job at pulling off vintage. In fact, she has sold me on these sandals. A couple of years ago I would have said NO to them, but I don't know...as time goes on....I suppose personal style changes and evolves...as does everything in life, eh? Hence, Life in Mod's name...life in modification, life in change. :)

While I doubt I will ever reach Laura's level, I don't mind adding a little hippie to my day-to-day.

Have a loverly day, LiM-ers!

THE OUTFIT:

maternityshmernity: business casual for the s.a.h.m

Feb 28, 2013

Outfit posts are hard.
Seriously.
I was a fashion blogger virgin before this series,
and I was all, "Get cute (high res) pics of myself looking
my best and put them online a few times a month? psshhh. Doing it in my sleep!"
And after just two of these suckers, I'm all,
"How do you people do it??!!?!" [Camille.]

My husband is getting his MBA, and last Friday evening he really wanted me to accompany him to a little get-together of his fellow classmates and a few of their professors.
It was a very lowkey event... everyone else was showing up at the bar just in their business clothes.
This was, however, more intimidating to me than if it had been fairly formal. Being a staying at home mom makes business caszh tough enough... throw in a growing bump and you have quite a challenge.
Have you noticed that alot of maternity clothes are either yoga-style comfy/casual, or going-to-a-wedding-style formal?
I didn't want to stand out too much...but I did want people to be able to tell without a shadow of a doubt that I am pregnant, not smuggling muffins.
(ok- I may been sticking out my little 4 month bump a bit in these pictures)
my outfit: blazer- thrift find! // short sleeve top (sm.)- *anthro. // white Blanqi (reg. length) // 7 for All Mankind denim- on sale at Nordstrom Rack (duh) // jewelry- J.Crew + Banana Republic //
diaper bag- Ellington Handbags
*anthro runs pretty boho roomy in some things, so it makes it ideal for our series! this will probably only fit me for one more week lol, but then it'll make for a great transition time when I have that weird post-partum jellybelly going on

These pictures are not what I had envisioned when planning this post.

For one, I had no control over the fact that the weather dropped from 60 on Thursday,
to 40 degrees on Friday night, when we went out.

40 degrees and wet. And windy. And chilling to the bone.

I had planned on wearing some cute heels with this outfit but it was just too cold and wet,
so these Banana Republic black boots had to do.
(no longer available - these are not similar because they have a heel and I am anti-tall-boot-heel)

Ya'll like my diaper bag? Yeh, diaper bag.
Diaperbagshmiaperbag
This bag made me feel lux and confident among all those MBA girls. More details coming in the next post ;).

Fashion bloggers: clap clap clap. How you make it look so easy beats me.

a day in the country

Feb 25, 2013

what I wore: Banana Republic navy blazer // Old Navy gingham button-up // 7 for all Mankind wide leg denim // Steve Madden braided flats

Nona and Pup Pup Pup had Moo all weekend! FREEDOM. Yes-aaaahhh. ;).
The husband and I had fun laying around watching movies, I got my hair did (Karlie Kloss-esque?), we ate a lot, & Matt drank an entire fish bowl. If you don't know what that is- it's a lot of alcohol meant for 4 people. He drank it all. Champion.

We ended our lovely little weekend at Nona & Pup Pups for din din and a little romping around outdoors- with the chickens, horsies, etc. Oh, country. You are loverly.

How was your weekend?

Layering is such an original idea, I know.
I am probably the first blogger to give it a go.
Ha.

It works.

I dig it.

*ehem*
Thanksgiving is this Thursday? What what?
When did November happen, how did Turkey day just sneak up on me and whennnnnnnn...
will I get to imbibe in my favorite drink of the season, a peppermint mocha via Starbucks (non-alcoholic)
Answer (to the last & most important ?): Wednesday. That is the day I will be sipping away on my fave bevy on the way to PA for the big in-law family Thanksgiving.
I'll def-o need it b/c this mama is taking over the "entertain-Moo-for-9-long-hours-in-the-car" role.
Adventures like this, my friends, keep life interesting.

Here's hoping your Thanksgiving week is full of blessings, adventures and lots of Pumpkin flavored stuff.

:)

Now, about that watch...
This lovely hasn't left my wrist since it came in the mail last week.
It's the perfect mix of casual and classy that I can really appreciate. Versatile, my dears.
Not only that, it is an eco-friendly timepiece made from corn resin w/ a mother of pearl dial!

Right on, duuuude.
