How We Wear It: long, slim shorts

Jun 28, 2013

I did it- hacked a pair of my old skinny jeans into shorts. I was a leeetle worried, because you know...you can never be too careful about where exactly you cut-off your jeans. If you cut too far up or down, you mayyyy end up in the "danger zone" (that awkward/mom jeans place). Sooo. I went with right above the knee and it seems to be a good rule of thumb when hacking your jeans into long shorts, fyi.

ANMJ and I are here yet again with another installment of How We Wear It. This time it's long, slim shorts.

Long, slim shorts with a blouse- I found this top at a second-hand store here in Charlotte. It's thin enough that I can get away with wearing a longer sleeve in the 90+ weather going on. The blousy nature of it balances out the very straight fit of the long shorts.

OUTFIT: LC floral blouse (second-hand) | DIY color block straw tote | Bandolino wedges (Piperlime)

Long, slim shorts with a loose tank + hat- there's really nothing better than a comfy, patterned tank for Summer. I have been wearing this one almost every other day (maybe. probably. yes). Pair it with a breathable hat and shoes...Summer lovin' in an outfit.

OUTFIT: Target straw hat | Target patterned  tank | Michael Khors mesh flats (E-bay find)

Long, slim shorts with peplum + sandals- if you look hard enough you can see my dog/toddler smudged doors! I like this look because it's clean looking, trendy and simple. Broken record coming in again...simple, simple...I loveee simple. Btw, these Target sandals are too good. You should still be able to find them in-store. Woo!

OUTFIT: H&M peplum top | F21 bangles | Target sandals

Now head on over to ANMJ to see how S rocked her shorts! (she's a denim hacker too)

OKAY- so this is where you come in. If you've ever worn long, slim shorts or plan on doing so now...do share. You can use the linky tool below, post a pic to the Life in Mod F-book page, send me an e-mail or post your pic to Instagram w/ hashtag: #howwewearit. We would love to see how you wear it.

  1. Any tips on how to cut the jeans? Did you cut in straight line and then wash them to get the frayed bottom? So cute...hoping you can give some insight on how-to do this!

    1. Hey Steph, I actually used chalk to mark where I would cut (right above the knee)...as I was wearing them. I then took them off and finished drawing around the legs of the jeans. I then cut them, following my chalk lines. They came out pretty straight! I hope that helps. :) Cheers.
