double duty handbags

Nov 8, 2013

pic//1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9

Diaper bags are really a necessity when you have babes- or at least a bag with enough room for all of that stuff you need to lug around with you. I just prefer a normal handbag over a real diaper bag- basically, they don't say "oh, hey...I'm a diaper bag". Bleh. No bueno. *two exceptions being Timi & Leslie diaper bags as shown in this old post...and the Lily Jade diaper bag (shown above)

As mamas we already have to run out with crumbly, un-ironed shirts and messy hair on the regular, so shouldn't we at least be able to carry around a stylish bag? I think so!...& yes, you can find one that both looks good and functions as a diaper bag. It's true. Take a look at all of the options I found above- via Lily Jade, Wallis, Billabong, etc. They are all fully capable of holding the diapers, wipes, sippies, snacks, toys, etc etc etc. (aside from the last two that are just for a quick run into the store and such- a one diaper type deal. Ya know.)

The big plus side to having a normal handbag that doubles as a diaper bag, is that you can quickly ditch the baby stuff whenever you manage to head out alone (*gasp*). It's really a win win.

So, ladies...what do you use as a diaper bag?

How We Wear It: long, slim shorts

Jun 28, 2013

I did it- hacked a pair of my old skinny jeans into shorts. I was a leeetle worried, because you know...you can never be too careful about where exactly you cut-off your jeans. If you cut too far up or down, you mayyyy end up in the "danger zone" (that awkward/mom jeans place). Sooo. I went with right above the knee and it seems to be a good rule of thumb when hacking your jeans into long shorts, fyi.

ANMJ and I are here yet again with another installment of How We Wear It. This time it's long, slim shorts.

Long, slim shorts with a blouse- I found this top at a second-hand store here in Charlotte. It's thin enough that I can get away with wearing a longer sleeve in the 90+ weather going on. The blousy nature of it balances out the very straight fit of the long shorts.

OUTFIT: LC floral blouse (second-hand) | DIY color block straw tote | Bandolino wedges (Piperlime)

Long, slim shorts with a loose tank + hat- there's really nothing better than a comfy, patterned tank for Summer. I have been wearing this one almost every other day (maybe. probably. yes). Pair it with a breathable hat and shoes...Summer lovin' in an outfit.

OUTFIT: Target straw hat | Target patterned  tank | Michael Khors mesh flats (E-bay find)

Long, slim shorts with peplum + sandals- if you look hard enough you can see my dog/toddler smudged doors! I like this look because it's clean looking, trendy and simple. Broken record coming in again...simple, simple...I loveee simple. Btw, these Target sandals are too good. You should still be able to find them in-store. Woo!

OUTFIT: H&M peplum top | F21 bangles | Target sandals

Now head on over to ANMJ to see how S rocked her shorts! (she's a denim hacker too)

OKAY- so this is where you come in. If you've ever worn long, slim shorts or plan on doing so now...do share. You can use the linky tool below, post a pic to the Life in Mod F-book page, send me an e-mail or post your pic to Instagram w/ hashtag: #howwewearit. We would love to see how you wear it.

Mom bags. They don't have to be ugzly.

Jun 11, 2013

When  it comes to mom bags I like to keep it realistic. Let's be honest here. A teeny weeny clutch doesn't work for us mamas...maybe for one of those rando date nights, but not for day-to-day. Of course, finding a useful and smart mommy handbag doesn't mean you have to go for the ugly fugly. No way, laday. There are several options out there that will fit all of those essentials and also keep you stylin'.

Head on over to ANMJ to check-out the original post and the other stylin' mamas bag picks! Thanks for including me, S. :)

What to Wear to that Wedding, British style.

May 17, 2013

I've been thinking it's about time to bring a little Brit back to LiM...I've been missing it! So my friends at House of Fraser were kind enough to contribute a few Summer wedding looks- adding to my What to Wear to That Wedding post. They're British through and through...and that's why I love them. See why here, here & here :). I made one request and that was that they include a hat or at least a fascinator, as they like to call them, with one of the outfits- I am set on making the English hat a "thing" on this side of the pond. One day! One day. Here you go then...

suit jacket/shorts/white pumps

I'm diggin' the short suit look- maybe not what Kate Middleton would wear, but definitely still refined and...British...which is what is important here ;). If you'd like to get more ideas for creating a Brit wedding look, head on over to the House of Fraser blog.

TGIF.

Cheers, loves.

How We Wear it: that boring v-neck sweater

Feb 28, 2013

So I teamed up with S of Ain't No Mom Jeans in order to try out different ways to style a plain, boring v-neck sweater. At first I was thinking, um...my ONE v-neck sweater is sad looking and I think I wore it maybe 5 years agoHow will I make this work??  (sshhh. I didn't tell S that though, b/c I didn't want her to think I'm a styling wuss). I tried it on with a couple things...it looked awful. Soooo I tried it with a couple other things and it totally worked!
over a shirt dress: Old Navy chambray shirt dress // BR v-neck sweater// Cottage Chic red clutch // F21 leggings // SM leopard print flats
nerdy chic: Coastal.com eye-wear // Old Navy gingham button-up // BR v-neck // Joe's denim // INPINK ring // Old Navy booties

...but wait! This is just part of the post. The rest can be found, and probably the better half of it, on ANMJ.
Not only that....it's a also a link-up! Yessss-aah! I know, it's your favorite thing to do on a Friday.
T.G.I.A.L.P. thank God it's a linky party. :)
If you have ever ever styled a v-neck into an outfit...share here (or on ANMJ!) via the linky tool below.
OR
1. send your pic to either me or S via e-mail
2. upload it to LiM's fbook
3. use Instagram and use the hashtag: #howwewearit.
As you share, we'll both be keeping our posts up to date.
It's going to be fuuunnnn.

All I know is...I now find myself reaching for my once lonely v-neck more often. I'm not sad about it either.
